About us
We are a nongovernmental, non-profit grassroots organization devoted to the cause of human rights, particularly the right to education of deprived children and human rights in education.
The organization was established in 2059 B.S (2002 A.D). We are now registered under the Society Registration Act of Nepal and are based in the Dhangadhi Village Development Committee of the District of Siraha in the eastern plains of Nepal.
The objective of this organization is to help realise education as a basic human right and fundamental to the fight for human dignity and freedom. Mindful of the state of the right to education, which is violated everyday in our country, we have the objective of promoting education as a basic human right, and mobilizing the people in Nepal and abroad to contribute to this objective, and create public pressure on the administration and the international community to fulfill their promises to provide free, compulsory public basic education for all people; in particular for children, women and all disadvantaged, deprived sections of society.
RTEF Mission
To enable people to take responsibility for the right to education of the deprived children and so motivate them to confront the situation through collective action thereby giving the child and themselves an opportunity to realize their full potential.
Our Principles
The Foundation is driven by the conviction that quality education for all is achievable, and by the concern for the immense costs of failure.
The Foundation believes that in an increasingly knowledge-based economy, exclusion from education will translate into growing poverty, inequality and deprivation.
The Right to Education Foundation commits itself to achieve its mission with objectivity, transparency and accountability and to follow democratic norms and processes in all its plans and actions.
We believe education is
• A universal human right
• The key to poverty alleviation and sustainable human development;
• A core responsibility of the state, and
• Achievable if our government and the people mobilize the political will and available resources.
Our Demands
With so much to gain, there can be no excuse for delay. The Right to Education Foundation therefore demands that the international community and our own Government take immediate action to implement the education-for-all goals and strategies agreed by 185 world governments at Dakar in April 2000. In particular, we call:
• On our government to involve citizens’ groups, teachers and communities in developing concrete plans of action for delivering and sustaining free, good quality public education for all;
• On our government, to abolish fees and charges for public primary education, and to increase their own spending on adult, early childhood, primary and basic education, with priority investments in schools and teachers serving the most disadvantaged groups;
• On the institutions working in this area to increase aid and debt relief for basic education, and fund a global initiative to back national plans with speedy, coordinated and predictable delivery of the additional resources needed;
• On civil society organizations, to hold their own governments and international institutions accountable for upholding the right to education, and delivering on the Education for All goals.
Our Resources
As an NGO,we do not receive any direct government funding. The two main sources of funds that the Foundation depends on are the resources provided by resourceful organizations and donations from concerned individuals and organisations.
Some choose to sponsor the costs of education and/or health inputs to a child or group of children, others to support the specialised inputs required by physically or mentally challenged children, or to sponsor a teacher, health-worker, or non-formal education centre. Organisations may opt to partner us through the Adopt-a-Project initiative. Others may enlist the support of their employees or members through a scheme which suits them and their budgets.
There are so many ways you can help our deprived children. You just have to use a little imagination and you will come up with many ways that you can personally make a difference. You’ll be amazed at how little it takes to make a difference. Suggest us how you can help us given these priorities.
